SLC Home Mold Inspections
Despite Utah’s dry climate, mold is still a persistent problem for many homeowners. Almost any home, no matter the climate, will go through leaks, water spills, flooding, etc. Molds grow under increased moisture; while mold spores are always present in a home, they do not develop into a problem until there is recurring dampness or standing water.
At American Fortitude, we use thermal imaging to detect hidden moisture in your home, focusing on the mold source. Our mold testing gives a detailed report of your home’s interior and exterior, breaking down where the mold is and what types.
American Fortitude does not handle the remediation of mold. Our team is here to provide homeowners with honest, trustworthy home inspections. When mold testing, we want to inform you accurately on what’s been detected. We regard it as a conflict of interest to remediate the molds we test. Instead, we interpret the tests and advise you and the company you choose on how to remediate the mold properly.
Buying a home will likely be the most significant investment you make in your life, and it’s the environment to keep your family safe. Because buying a home means so much, there are many things apart from a mortgage to consider before buying. Mold comes in a wide variety, appearing as a green fuzz, a thin orange film, or more concerningly, in slimy black spots. As you may know, the black mold could be dangerous and can harm humans and pets.
Most mold can cause an allergic response, irritated eyes, lungs, nose, skin, and throat. Mold is especially concerned if you or a family member has asthma, causing increased asthma attacks. Toxic black mold is called Stachybotrys chartarum. Not all black mold is this species, but it is often difficult to tell them apart visually. Stachybotrys chartarum causes much more severe symptoms such as dermatitis, rashing in areas of perspiration, conjunctivitis, difficulty breathing & tightness of the chest, cough, fever, bloody rhinitis, and fatigue. Generally, black mold is not lethal unless consumed, although it’s a serious concern for those with asthma.
While any mold should be removed, it’s crucial to get a home inspection to test it. A home inspection will discover moisture spots in your home, allowing the source of the mold to be resolved. The moisture could be from a roof or pipe leak, a damaged washing machine line, condensation from AC, etc. It is essential to fix the problem causing the mold; if you don’t, it will repeatedly come back and generate property and health problems.
Mold can cause severe damage to your home’s structure. Mold decomposes construction materials as it grows, and eventually, it will destroy anything it grows on. This is why exterior mold is such a big concern and needs to be addressed promptly. Over time, mold will eat its way through exterior walls, causing outside moisture to seep in between your exterior and interior walls. The condensation between your walls creates an ideal environment for mold, causing it to multiply and eventually penetrate your interior wall. At that point, extensive structural damage has already occurred, and that can be costly to repair.
The most important thing when it comes to mold prevention is addressing it immediately. If you have mold or suspect you have a mold problem, call American Fortitude at (385)-302-2726. We’ll ensure all mold and potential for mold is found, and our professionals will advise you with permanent solutions.
